The writing and speaking sections combine automated scoring with certified ETS raters.
A new scoring scale
Since January 2026, every TOEFL iBT section is scored from 1 to 6, in half-points, and the overall score is the average of the four sections, rounded to the nearest half-point. Until January 2028, the score report also shows, for reference, a comparable score on the old 0-120 scale: the midpoint of the matching range.
ETS publishes a CECRL correspondence: a section score around 5 matches level C1 for that skill.

Why does my TOEFL score show two scales?
Since January 2026, ETS scores each section from 1 to 6. During a transition period, until January 2028, the score report also shows a comparable score on the old 0-120 scale, for reference only.
Does the TOEFL score match the CECRL?
Yes, ETS publishes a correspondence: a section score close to 5 matches CECRL level C1 for that skill. The full table is published on the official site.
Do I have to answer every question?
Yes. If any of the four sections (reading, listening, speaking, writing) is left with no answers at all, the whole test is not scored.
How long is the result valid?
2 years from the test date. After that, ETS no longer sends the results.
Where can I sit the TOEFL near Yaounde?
Cameroon is among the countries where the TOEFL iBT is offered. Check the nearest centre to Yaounde on the official ETS locator before enrolling, as centres can change.
