IELTS preparation in Yaounde
The IELTS certifies your English level for study, a professional body, or immigration to an English-speaking country outside the United States (Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK). M-Training Academy prepares candidates for all four sections in Yaounde, Carrefour Tam-Tam, in the Academic or General Training version depending on your goal.
IELTS Academic or General Training: which one?
Both versions share the same listening section (30 minutes, 40 questions, 4 parts) and speaking section (11 to 14 minutes, face to face with an examiner). They differ on reading and writing:
| Section | Academic | General Training |
|---|---|---|
| Reading (60 minutes, 40 questions) | 3 long academic or general-interest texts, 2,150 to 2,750 words in total | Shorter, workplace-style texts (notices, advertisements, contracts), then one longer text at the end |
| Writing (60 minutes, 2 tasks) | Task 1: describe a chart, table or diagram (150 words minimum, 20 minutes) | Task 1: write a letter for a given situation (150 words minimum, 20 minutes) |
Task 2 (an argumentative essay, 250 words minimum, 40 minutes) is identical in both versions and counts twice as much as Task 1 in the writing score.
Understanding IELTS bands (0 to 9)
The overall band score is the average of the four sections, rounded to the nearest half band.
| Band | Level | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 9 | Expert | Full operational command of English: precise, appropriate and fluent. |
| 8 | Very good | Full operational command, with only occasional inaccuracies. |
| 7 | Good | Operational command with some inaccuracies in some situations. |
| 6 | Competent | Effective command despite some inaccuracies, mostly in familiar situations. |
| 5 | Modest | Partial command, with frequent errors, but the overall meaning comes through. |
| 4 | Limited | Basic competence limited to familiar situations. |

IELTS recommends a 2-year validity from the test date, while language skills stay representative. Some organisations accept older results: check with them directly.
Can I retake just one section if I fail one part?
The "One Skill Retake" lets you retake a single skill (listening, reading, writing or speaking) instead of the full test, depending on availability at your chosen centre.
How long does IELTS preparation take?
It depends on your starting level and the band you are aiming for. The free level test gives a first reference point before estimating a realistic timeline.
